Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of service and the Community Engagement Center invites you to participate in a service event on MLK Day happening on Monday, January 15, 2024! MLK Day is an opportunity to come together as one Merced community for the betterment of our community through service projects.
Volunteers will have a wide variety of events to pick from to fit their schedule!
Here is an overview of the service opportunities for MLK Day:
- 10 AM to 3 PM - Painting Flattened Oak Leaves for Yosemite National Park: An on-campus service opportunity at the MultiCultural Center (Kl 169). One-hour shifts with a cap of 8 volunteers per shift.
- From 12 PM - 1 PM there will be a moment of reflection on the importance of service in relation to Martin Luther King Jr. in the MultiCultural Center (KL 169).
- We will also have our Cards of Encouragement Project which is a separate registration where we will be writing cards to the individuals impacted by the justice system. students will receive 1 service hour per card with a max of 3 cards if you would like to participate you can find the registration link here!
- 5 PM to 8 PM - D Street Shelter Dinner (317 E 15th St, Merced): Volunteers will assist with food preparation and handing out meals. Limited transportation will be provided and is limited to 15 volunteers. (4:30 PM if you are selecting transportation from the Community Engagement Center)
