The mission of the Health Promotion department is to foster a campus community that encourages positive health behaviors supportive of UC Merced students' academic success and well-being. This is achieved using available data and a primary prevention philosophy to guide our efforts to provide health education, train student leaders, advocate for change and promote health equity.
The Health Education Representatives for Opportunities to Empower Students (H.E.R.O.E.S.) are interns in the Health Promotion department who provide outreach on a variety of health topics including sexual health, nutrition, physical activity, substance use, sleep and stress. The H.E.R.O.E.S. work in groups to understand the health behaviors of UC Merced students, develop programs that promote healthy choices, direct students to appropriate resources and advocate for a campus and community environment that encourages healthy living. Upon successful completion of the first year as a volunteer, continuing H.E.R.O.E.S. will be eligible for paid positions within the organization.
